Job Summary
The Senior Architect for Investments and Mutual Fund Systems is a trusted thought leader whose IT and business expertise combine to translate business objectives into technology-enabled solutions. This role’s responsibilities include:
• Application of technical and industry knowledge to lead the delivery of innovative solutions.
• Definition and implementation of architecture for initiatives, programs and assets.
• The adoption and continuous improvement of architecture standards and best practices.
• Mentoring, training and coaching of analysts and engineers with a team-based, hands-on, partnership approach.
• Enabling Asset Management capabilities for Thrivent now and into the future.
Job Responsibilities and Duties
General
- Apply business knowledge and experience to effectively model, coach and advise others on technology, particularly those who build and support engineered solutions.
- Develop concepts and constructs necessary to create and maintain technology-enabled business systems.
- Lead efforts to analyze IT industry and market trends and determine potential impacts.
- Provide thought leadership and execution to large complex efforts to ensure alignment across multiple business and IT areas.
- Proactively mitigate risks across multiple assets, information domains, technologies and platforms.
- Develop and leverage partnerships within the corporate architecture community.
- Work within our framework of diverse teams of skillsets and experience levels to support the delivery of solutions.
Strategy and Alignment
- Lead the definition of conceptual and logical architecture specifications including solution/application architecture, data architecture and technical architecture.
- Lead, drive and maintain the definition of architecture standards that are aligned with business goals, IT strategy, industry patterns and Thrivent’s enterprise architecture vision.
- Ensure that architecture standards, policies, and procedures are enacted uniformly across application development projects and programs.
Communication / Collaboration.
- Serve as an architectural conduit for external requests and provide awareness on enterprise architecture directions and goals.
- Proactively engage with teams and understand their priorities to ensure early inclusion of sound architecture practices in crafting solutions.
- Maintain a network of thought leaders within and outside Thrivent to enable early understanding of emerging and innovative options for architectural and technical approaches.
Architecture Development
- Lead by example and assist efforts to implement across all layers of a solution.
- Develop new patterns collaboratively to jumpstart common approaches.
- Review the deliverables throughout the development cycle to ensure quality and adherence to all quality management plans and standards.
- Architecture Analysis and Consultation.
- Lead efforts to review and provide input on proposals from an architectural perspective, including feasibility, practicality, technical viability, and consistency.
- Assess and recommend infrastructure and application solutions for upgrades to meet business needs.
- Provide ongoing, daily architecture support to the department as needs arise.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree in a related field a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in complex engineering environments, taking abstract concepts and ideas and formulating a detailed software engineering plan to deliver
- Experience with industry standard technologies, tools and methods including Service Oriented Architecture, Enterprise Application Integration, and Application Servers, frameworks, and databases.
- Contemporary engineering background, including CI/CD, TDD, templated patterns, and containerization.
- Experience in coding languages including but not limited to R, Python and Java.
- Cloud-centric experiences, hosted solutions, Snowflake, Databricks.
- Strong data architecture background including modeling, matching, mastering, metadata, integration, governance and consumption patterns.
- Design patterns, including interfaces with security, platforms, vendor solutions, cloud solutions.
- Background in citizen development enablement and support, including data engineering, advanced analytics and visualizations.
- Incremental, agile design and development patterns, team-based approaches.

- Financial Services experience that can represent Investment Management and Mutual Fund business needs to the technical organization, and vice versa.
- Asset management/capital markets environment a strong plus.
- Demonstrated leadership on large scale projects impacting strategic priorities.
Additional Information
- This position is eligible for relocation.
- This position requires you to work on-site in Minneapolis, MN or Appleton, WI a minimum of two days a week.
