Description

The Growth Audience VP is a senior strategic field leadership role responsible for advancing Thrivent’s Growth Audiences (GA) strategy by shaping how the strategy is defined, adapted, executed, and scaled across priority markets. The role is designed to accelerate and extend the success demonstrated in established GA markets into additional markets over time, while helping refine the long-term model for sustainable growth. The role operates within Thrivent’s existing field leadership and enterprise support model, partnering with local field leaders and corporate centers of excellence to advance GA priorities through a coordinated, integrated approach. The position is intended to strengthen and align existing field and home-office capabilities in support of focus markets, rather than establish separate field or corporate structures.

The Growth Audience VP provides senior leadership by guiding market strategy, coaching field leaders, shaping partnership and community approaches, informing the prioritization of resources and capabilities, and strengthening the recruiting, development, retention, and long-term success of field leaders and advisors serving GA. The role also serves as a critical source of field-based learning, helping translate market experience into strategic recommendations to support future scale.

This can be a remote position within the US, but the individual would need to be willing to travel up to 50%. Our ideal candidate(s) will be able to serve our Atlanta and Houston markets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership, Strategy Development and Execution

  • Provide strategic leadership for the GA work within the assigned audience segment, shaping how enterprise strategy is translated into differentiated market approaches across priority focus markets.
  • Define, refine, and adjust segment-specific market strategies based on field insights, performance trends, market readiness, and organizational capacity, ensuring the GA strategy remains practical, focused, and scalable.
  • Accountable for execution of the GA strategy for the assigned audience segment across priority focus markets, while also informing the evolution of the broader strategy through a disciplined test-and-learn approach.
  • Serve as a senior field voice in evaluating which strategic approaches should be expanded, adapted, paused, or sequenced differently as GA work scales across additional markets over time. Partner with enterprise leaders to align near-term tactical priorities with longer-term GA ambitions, including market expansion, operating model refinement, and future capability needs.

Executive Coaching and Leader Development

  • Coach market directors, AVPs, and other field leaders on how to recruit, develop, and retain advisors serving GA, while building broader leadership capability that can sustain success beyond the initial focus markets. Influence leader behavior at critical points in the recruiting and activation process, helping leaders strengthen the strategic and cultural competencies required to succeed in GA work.
  • Shape leadership expectations and operating norms for GA work by helping field leaders understand not only what needs to be done, but how to lead effectively in a highly coordinated, cross-functional model.

Engagement, Partnerships and Community Strategy

  • Work jointly with the Partnerships corporate leadership to set the strategic direction for community relationship development within the assigned segment, identifying the partnerships and external relationships most likely to accelerate advisor recruiting, market presence, trust, and sales growth.
  • Open doors through centers of influence, community relationships, and partnerships that create long-term strategic value for Thrivent in Growth Audience markets. Guide how local and national partnership strategies should be prioritized, sequenced, and integrated so they align to market readiness, field capacity, and desired business outcomes.

Resource Prioritization, Strategic Decision-Making and Enterprise Influence

  • Serve as a key strategic decision-maker on GA priorities, market tactics, investment choices, and resource deployment in partnership with field leaders and designated corporate partners. Prioritize GA investments across recruiting, sales, retention, partnerships, and supporting capabilities, balancing immediate market needs with long-term scalability and enterprise alignment.
  • Provide informed recommendations to senior leaders on future market-entry choices, leadership needs, and capability investments based on observed field results and evolving market conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

The ideal candidate brings significant senior field leadership experience in financial services, strong strategic and market-development capability, and a proven ability to shape growth strategy, coach leaders, and influence enterprise partners in a complex, matrixed environment.

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in financial services, including substantial field leadership experience in advisor recruiting, market growth, distribution leadership, or related roles.
  • Proven success with multicultural markets, diverse growth strategies, or advisor/client segments requiring culturally relevant approaches.
  • Strong track record of building community, partnership, or center-of-influence relationships that support growth and market credibility.
  • Proven success coaching senior field leaders and leading through influence in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to shape strategy, refine market approaches, and translate enterprise priorities into scalable results.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic judgment, including experience prioritizing investments, partnerships, and capabilities to support growth.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to communicate effectively with field leaders, corporate partners, and senior leadership.
